We fetch the real record
Crossref for DOIs, OpenLibrary for ISBNs and NCBI for PubMed IDs. Your browser asks them directly, so the lookup is not logged by us.

Copy one reference, or open the Android app to keep a project, export a bibliography and check a draft for overlapping text.

Seven styles, each with its own page
They are not the same rules with different punctuation. Each page explains what that style actually asks for, and the mistakes it catches people out with.
APA 7
Psychology, education, nursing and most of the social sciences.
MLA 9
English, literature, languages and the humanities.
Harvard
Widely used across UK and Australian universities, especially in business and the social sciences.
Chicago 18
History, the arts and some social sciences.

Electrical engineering, computer science and most engineering disciplines.

A book is not a web page and neither is a news report. Each page shows that one source written out in all seven styles, and the fields it needs.
Journal article
Paste the DOI and the reference is built for you. The rest of this page is what the generator is doing, so you can check its work.
Book
Paste an ISBN and the details come back from OpenLibrary. What follows is how to check them against the book in your hands.
Website
Web pages are the ones people get wrong, because the author and the date are often not where you expect and sometimes are not there at all.
Newspaper article
News sits between a journal article and a web page, and it takes one thing neither of them needs: the full date, down to the day.
YouTube video
A YouTube video is cited by whoever uploaded it, the date it went up and its link. The details differ from style to style, and the timestamp rules are where people slip.
Book chapter
When each chapter of a book has its own author, you cite the chapter rather than the book, and the editors and the page range become part of the reference.
